What is the big deal about door trim? Many people probably do not really understand a few things about door trim. Most builders will use what’s called a one and three-eighth inch or hollow door. Basically, it just feels cheap, it looks cheap. The average person doesn’t understand why their home just feels cheap.
Bordeaux Builders built this 5 foot pantry and used 1 3/4″ solid core 2-panel doors and then added 3 1/2″ trim around it.
They’re not necessarily full wood, they are actually made out of MDF, but they give a much heavier feel. It’s a much more beautiful door. It’s going to stand the test of time better. It’s not going to warp as easily and it just has more of a sturdy feel to it. This type of door and trim is standard in all of our custom built homes.
This particular door we did here on this one, even the pantry, we did a two-panel with an arch at the top. We can do this in multiple styles, but we almost always utilize the one and three-quarter inch solid core door.
We also use our Signature Brushed Nickel hardware, which again, just a little bit more of a dramatic effect to it. Just feels sturdier, much nicer than the average Kwikset or cheaper models that a lot of houses have. We use hardware to match the rest of the house and faucets & fixtures.
